ONCE…a mínimum story

The last movie I saw was “Once”, it was two months ago, roughly. It’s a beautiful musical film about an Irish street musician and his loving relationship with a simple and sweet girl than helps him to record with his own compositions. It’s one of those minimum stories that wet our eyes and keeps our lips tighten.

The film was written and directed by John Carney. The actors that star are Glen Hansard (of the Irish band The Frames) and Marketa Irglova.

The story is simple: young street musicians (Glen Hansard) interpreting famous songs during the day for the passerbies and during the night sings his own song. These songs are about his love delusion with his ex girlfriend. His talent is recognized by a Czech immigrant (Marketa Irglova) who sells flowers on the street. They begin to be friends, but it’s evident the feeling among each other because there is something that unites them: this is the passion for the songs. Its really is about sharing life stories and good songs.

All the songs in the movie are original and very special by themselves. Maybe for this “Once” won an Oscar for the Best Original Song “Falling Slowly”

I knew “Once” one day when I was bored looking for something to watch on television and suddenly this great and minimum story appeared in Cinemax, a cable channel where often you find excellent movies.

Obviously I recommend you this film, that is a movie for anyone who is passionate about music.

I give you the link for you to see the trailer of “Once”. This is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6xIF92OUos

My Favorite piece of technology

At this time I will tell you about a technological object that goes with me wherever I go, always. It may be short trips or long trips around Santiago. This is my mp3 player.

My mp3 player was a gift from my parents. I received its for my birthday, three years ago, I think. I use it daily in my travels to the university or my house or everywhere I go. This travels to the university are very long, and my mp3 makes of the long and boring travel along this noise city much friendlier, happier and sometimes I get really magic times.

I like my mp3 because I have always had since I was a little girl music players and I feel I cannot live without them. First, I had a portable radio, second, I had a personal stereo and later I had a walkman. Then my mp3 is the actual technology for the same function: listening to good music!

What would life be like without it?... Mmm. I think that my days would have fewer good sounds. Santiago is a city with serious problems of noise pollution and requires good melodies that accompany our steps.

My Favorite Music

Today I would like to share with you my musical tastes. Listening to music is for me an important ingredient of my daily life. The kind of music that I listen to is possible of classifying under what is known as “indie music”. It is an independent production and beautiful lyrics that include from pop to rock. Also I like folk music such as Violeta Parra, Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash.

Among my favorite bands are Coldplay, they are from England and Travis a Scottish band. I was very lucky because I listened to both bands alive when they visited Chile in February 2006 and November 2007, respectively. Another concert that I will never forget is Ennio Morricone`s, when he gave a free concert in March 2008.

I like Chilean musicians. Manuel García is a great musician, especially because he is considered the Victor Jara of our days. His lyrics are simply poetry. My favorites songs are “Las Meninas”, El Martirio de San Sebastian”, Una Buena Muchacha” –songs that made with his group Mecánica Popular- “Pañueli” and “Ninguna Calle”. On the other hand, I like Gepe because he has very innovative creations. My favorite album by him is “Gepinto”, all songs in this album are good songs. Javiera Mena is a young musician with nice songs such as “Sol de Invierno” or “Camara Lenta”. Other emergent Chilean musician that I like is Chinoy.
